I kept all these files, I found it twice as fast to get a non sp Vista updated to SP2 using the manual method, saved me so much time working on I am running vista home premium 32bit with IE9. I had a few similar problems though not exactly like yours. The page you are taken to will allow you to manually download and install the update. Ah well. For some reason, I never get a notification that the downloads are complete.
